Claro was founded in 2010 as a supportive place for students with neurodiversity to learn, grow and shine. With centres located in Nanaimo and Kelowna, BC, Claro's program serves over 85 students and their families. We offer individualized support in academic tutoring, life skills, self-regulation, therapeutic recreation, social skills, and emotional awareness inspired by each student's unique abilities and pace. Families are partners in each student's journey to shine brighter than anyone ever believed possible.
Mornings are dedicated to supporting students in their distributed learning school programs. Afternoons are focused on developing life skills, social skills and emotional regulation to promote healthy relationships and well-being. Our students participate in centre and community-based social, recreation, volunteer and work experience opportunities. As active and engaged members of our communities, they shine brightly as students and citizens. Grounded in relationship, Mentors provide attuned support within structured and consistent programming. Our team shares the core belief that every child has the capacity to learn when they feel safe and that safety is cultivated in relationship. We are committed to trauma-sensitive practices, collaborative problem-solving, and positive behaviour support. Our skilled Mentors are trained in crisis prevention and participate in ongoing professional development. Diversity is strength; we warmly welcome LGBTQ2SIA+ students and families into our safe space. |
