Claro Life founded our first learning centre in 2010 in Nanaimo, BC for neurodivergent children and youth, including those on the Autism spectrum. Here, we nurtured our first seven students to learn, grow and shine. In 2011, we added a second learning centre for twelve students in Kelowna, BC. Claro Centres now proudly serves over 85 students and their families. Our students are living big, bright lives in our communities!
Claro Centres offer individualized support in the areas of academics, life skills, regulation, therapeutic recreation, social skills, and emotional awareness inspired by each student's unique abilities and pace. Families are partners in each child's journey to shine brighter than anyone ever believed possible. At Claro Centres, mornings are dedicated to supporting children and youth in their online school program. Mentors provide support as education assistants. Afternoons are focused on developing life skills, social skills and emotional regulation to promote healthy relationships and well-being. Our students engage in centre and community-based social, recreation, nature, volunteer and work experience opportunities. As active and engaged members of our communities, they shine brightly as students and citizens. In 2017, Claro Life expanded to include Claro Family. First, providing evidence-based, supportive Sexual Health and Relationship Education from a certified Sexual Health Educator to students at Claro Centres. Specializing in neurodiversity-inclusive access to high-quality education, Claro Family quickly grew to offer 1:1 and small group classes, and workshops for children, families and professionals in the Okanagan. In 2023, Claro Family added a full scope of services to children and families whose needs fall outside the scope of service of Claro Centres. Claro Family now also features in home and community Family Support Consultants (Behaviour Consultants), Mentors (Behaviour Interventionists), and centre-based Social Groups for children over age 6. We are excited to introduce this expanded service to provide personalized, high-quality support to families to the Okanagan. Grounded in relationship, our Claro team provides attuned support within structured and consistent programming. We share the core belief that every child has the capacity to learn when they feel safe, and that safety is cultivated in relationship. We are value the lived experience of children and families, and offer trauma-sensitive practices, collaborative problem-solving, and co-regulation. Our skilled Mentors are trained in crisis prevention and participate in ongoing professional development. |
Diversity is strength! We warmly invite neurodivergent 2SLGBTQIA+, Indigenous, and immigrant students and families into our welcoming community.
