What are the enrolment criteria for Claro?
We consider each applicant's age, strengths, abilities, and needs and assess whether Claro has the staff capacity, potential peer group and pod to provide an environment where your child could learn, grow, and shine. Children and youth who possess sufficient regulation and personal care skills to safely participate in a 1:3 or 1:4 (staff-to-child or youth) ratio in the centre and on community outings thrive in our program. Children and youth must be independent in toileting. Children and youth with recurring significant aggression or violence are encouraged to continue building skills with a higher level of support before applying to our program. Is there a waitlist? Claro does not maintain a traditional waitlist. Instead, we have a wait pool for children and youth who meet our admissions criteria. Admission is not based on the order of application, but rather on best fit for the specific available seat. We are committed to open communication throughout the process. If we are unable to meet your child’s needs at this time, we encourage you to reapply in the future. When possible, we will also refer you to other appropriate programs in the community. Please note: demand for our program often exceeds available space, and we are actively working to expand access to support more children and youth in our communities. Can I tour the centre? First, please complete an Interested Family Form (available November 2025) with supporting documentation. When a potential seat becomes available, the Program Director may arrange a tour. Please note: there may be times when, due to high interest in the Claro program at a particular location, we may not be able to accommodate tours for every applicant. Can my child try out Claro? On a case-by-case basis, Claro may offer one or more Explore Claro Days. After submitting an Interested Family Form, an Application, and participating in a tour, the Program Director may extend an invitation to your child for an Explore Claro Day. This is a chance for your child to experience a day at Claro. Please note: it is in no way a promise, guarantee, or offer of enrolment. Does Claro serve only Autistic children and youth? This is a common misunderstanding about Claro. Although many of the children and youth we support are Autistic, we welcome children and youth with a wide variety of neurodevelopmental profiles, including FASD, ADHD, Intellectual Impairment, microdeletions, genetic conditions, Tourette Syndrome, OCD, ARFID, Anxiety, Depression, PDA profile, Sensory Processing Disorder, Developmental Coordination Disorder and more. Most of the children and youth we support have complex profiles with multiple diagnoses. All of them have unique strengths, abilities and needs. We view each child as an individual, and customize a program of support as unique as they are! This diversity contributes to a vibrant learning centre and community. |
Does Claro serve children aged 7 or younger?
Claro does not have the facility, program or staffing to support children aged 0-6. We occassionally accept an applicant at age 7, if their unique needs can be well served by our facility, program and staff team. We encourage applications from parents/guardians of children aged 7.
